I tell of my day-to-day experiences in a funky Japanese town from my American viewpoint. This blog could also be called 'Bizarro World', 'Notes From Kyushu, a Smaller Island', or 'Teaching English in Japan: Smash Your Ego in 10 Easy Lessons."

The violin is back.

I started a practice regimen again finally. The school has 6 beautiful practice rooms, used by the members of the famous Tamana Girl's High School Brass Band. The band has traveled all over the world. They are awesome. And they have provided me with the space, the opportunity and the motivation to play again. I think things are going to take off from here.

By the way, among the ups and downs, life here is very good. My Japanese, somehow, seems to be coming along, and my job is making me use my head. Aikido training is good.

It's funny--many, many topics go through my mind when I think about writing, but when I actually sit down, only the bare bones of my thoughts actually come out.

Oh, well.

It does sound as if this year is looking better all the time. It's been too long since you had a real chance to keep up violin. I'm really glad you've found a way to work on it again.
Will you doing a performance for your kids there? Do any of them play strings? Dad

No, none of the kids play strings, but it looks as if some other things are happening.
Someone from the school contacted a volunteer orchestra in Kumamoto and set it up for me to watch tonight.
Also, unbeknownst to me, the music teacher heard me playing one night, and afterwards asked me to play with some students some time next month.
One more thing is that I'm not only getting back into shape, but I think my practice skills have improved.
Things are looking better, eh?
Take care Dad
